The Noi

The Noi home world, Natura, looks like it is uncivilized with the mountains and lakes almost untouched by the inhabitants. They take pride in keeping their planet clean and clear of the waste that technology tends to create. They have warp technology but its use is limited preferring to keep themselves closed off from outside influence.

Physiology: Humanoid species

Males are described as vicious, violent, arrogant, intelligent and surprisingly strong. They also tend to be bald.

Women tend to present themselves to be quiet and subdued hiding their extreme carnal appetites and animalistic nature as well as their unique skills of seduction.

Gestational periods for the Noi is usually 10 months. During their gestation females will develop one of two genetic enhancements.

Type A tend to develop a Pheromone enhancement used to attract their choice of mates and is more common amongst the Noi population. The air born pheromones are temporary and controllable so it is possible to hold a high office in their political system. Its most significant effect is to make them susceptible to suggestion. The pheromones' effects are cumulative; the longer exposed, the more pronounced are the results.

Type B develop a water based biochemical compound known as 'tears'. This is less common enhancement and less desirable of the two. Once they comes into contact with skin causes the receiver of the compound to become infatuated and enthralled with the woman who infected them. Because of this infection's tendency to be more permanent it is unlikely that a type B Noi woman will hold public office.
[note]No cure has been found for this infection on a widespread scale but a personalized cure may be developed from a sample of the tears.

The Noi are telepathic with each other but have a hard time reading other races so they rely heavily upon their empathic abilities to gauge their honesty.

Age: 250-300 years. They believe their long life spans come from their tie to Natura.
Politics:

Natura is ran unofficially by an Oligarchy a form of government where power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royalty, wealth, family, and military influence. Such states are often controlled by politically powerful families whose children are heavily conditioned and mentored to be heirs of the power of the oligarchy. This type of power by its very nature may not be exercised openly; the oligarchs preferring to remain "the power behind the throne", exerting control through economic means.

Litha: The people of Natura present themselves in something like a Constitutional Monarchy with their leaders being elected every 50 years to the office of Litha the highest seat of 'power' on this planet. The Litha is the public figurehead, no better than a puppet, they often are the only ones that will speak to an off worlder with the real power controlling from behind the scenes.

Assembly of Natura Prime: The real power on the planet, this group assembles once a year to make policy changes, they meet for 4 months then return back to their places of origin. Usually the seats are held by a naturist, their goals and decisions often are based on what would be best for their planet as opposed to their people. Basing their ideas that the Planet will take care of its people.

The Noi political stance is isolationism usually preferring a policy of non involvement and non interference. There has been a push for this to be changed and make petition to join the Federation. In recent years the Orion pirate raids have increased and it has become a drain on planetary resources with some Orions starting a mining operation on one of the mountain ranges.

Religion:

The Noi as a people have a unique perspective on religion. Most believe in a mono theistic God while they worship Natura itself as its main creation believing that they are the 'children' of the planet rather than what created it.

There ceremonies are usually long and ritualistic with the use of the elements being predominantly displayed at all times. They celebrate each change in season as well as births and deaths.

Hand-fasting: This takes place a year and one day before a marriage is confirmed. During this time a trial marriage takes place where the couple lives together as man and wife for the duration of the year. At the end of the year they are separated for one day in preparation for the final ceremony. If the couple finds that they are unsuited for each other for any reason they may break the Hand-fast unless there is a child that becomes involved, then it becomes increasingly difficult. They tend to end with the terms "for as long as love lasts" instead of the Earth "till death do us part".
