Mission: Tigris Shakedown
Location: deck 8
Timeline: Current

ON:

For hours Byrnes had been in and out of crawlspaces, up and down ladderwells, and moving to and fro in many a corridor. A dozen engineers were also doing the same, all of them working diligently to repair what was wrong. The thermal reaction grid had been replaced and repaired, with Graf running that team, so Sean had decided to run diagnostics and maintenance checks on the entire EPS system for decks 7, 8 and 9. He was covered in a sheen of sweat, drinking water from an offered bottle when his combadge made that funky blurble sound as it was telling him there was an incoming communication.

"Lieutenant Byrnes, it seems that Starfleet installed a new cooling system for the ships environmental controls. Along with a new warp core."

"Really?" Sean cursed himself for not finding that sooner, when down in engineering. "Well, that explains a great many things, don't it?"

"Yes, Sir."

Not liking the idea, but having no choice, Byrnes gave orders. "First, repair the coolant line since Security figured out whatever it was they wanted to. From main engineering, to all the way up here, I want all systems in regards to the cooling and warp core rechecked. Everything. This means no less than ten hour shifts until this ship is back up and running like a top. Get on it, Byrnes out." He tapped his badge off.

Graf had come up beside him. "I heard that. We're in for a few long nights."

"Tell me about it," sighed Byrnes. "If this ship isn't ready to leave dock when the Captain wants, it'll be my ass he takes a bite out of. Like Scotty said years ago, in regards to new tech; the more they overtake the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." Shaking his head and finishing his water, Byrnes looked down the corridor he was going to use. "I'll be in impulse engineering, working back from there. We'll meet in the middle." Walking away, Sean rubbed the back of his neck, stretched it a bit by twisting the head this way and that, then stepped into the lift.
